A Truth Frozen in Time
The classic truth that was started in the first movie, and continues in this phenomenal sequel is about Elsa trying to understand herself. As seen in the trailers, our characters set out on an adventure and with every adventure; there is self-discovery along with the actual journey and ending destination.
This song, “Show Yourself,” comes with Elsa’s own internal transformation. Similar to “Let it Go,” where she embraced that she is different and does not have to hide; this song expresses her desire to understand the reason to why she is different.
Within this question of, “Why am I different?” comes our timeless biblical truth. How does a person find his or her own purpose and meaning? It has been said, that to find one’s purpose one must find their maker.
I’ve been listening to this song at night with my children as part of our evening worship quiet time. During these times, I created a category of secular-worship songs where I am teaching them how to find biblical truths in songs that are not explicitly Christian.
I asked my eight and six your old, “What do you think Elsa could be asking if we listened to the words without the movie?” My eight-year-old clued in very quickly and said, “Maybe God, or Heaven?”
My first thought, in agreement, was God; but when he said heaven, I realized he was right as well. As with art, there is always multiple levels of meaning and interpretation. My son heard the words, “I’m arriving, and it feels like home.” To him, it made him think of the place where God resides, which is in heaven.
After processing the wise words of my sage of a son, I put my two thoughts together. Show yourself, my maker! In return God says, “I am here and heaven has come to you, you are home and you will be home.”
We read in Jeremiah 29:13, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (NIV).
James declares, “Come near to God and he will come near to you” (James 4:8, NIV)

Or as the Psalmist proclaims, “I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer” (Psalm 17:6, NIV).
Seeking after something bigger than ourselves is human. It is something God placed within us. I think this story of Elsa, although not biblical in its conclusion, expresses a timeless truth. This truth is that we want our creator to reveal himself to us and tell us who we are.
Your greatest purpose is found in God’s greatest revelation rooted in Jesus Christ.
“To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 2:27, NIV).
“Christ in you, the hope of glory,” your maker dwells in you and brings you life in abundance, a new life unlike any other.
Jesus show yourself to us, come quickly, we need you. God be near to us, never leave us. Spirit, move us, your presence brings us peace.
May this Advent season teach you that the coming of the King has happened, is happening and will happen. Christ came into this world to save us, he dwells in us by the power of the Spirit and in God’s perfect timing, King Jesus will return.
